100 Words

I am part of a group of seven people and we each write 100 words one day a week and email it out to each other. This keeps us writing, sharing, creating and reading. It's fun and amazing what comes in 100 words. I encourage you to try this either on your own or with a group of people.

100 Words: Subway Happiness

The L train between Bedford and 1st ave is a good 3-4 minute ride. A pair of hip hop subway-pole-dancers were in the car.  I have seen this act before.  Despite our habitual public transportation scowls, drab grey coats that were still holding the cold wind between our layers, their big smiles, willingness to swing and play, made my insides move,  mimicking their bodies’ waves and pulses to the scratchy audio tape. They performed inspite of us, but also FOR us, some who didn’t want to be distracted and some grateful for the drop in the bucket.

Too many darkened faces, mute, with arms waiving in the air.
Must craft a ship of latest technology to ensure their safe transport.
All I have is a flimsy wet cardboard box, unfit for a kitten.
A baby is howling of hunger, I toss box of Parmalat
One baby ate,  but a thousand more hungry.
Someone just gave birth to a baby.
